Laparoscopic Surgery (or keyhole surgery) is a minimally invasive surgical technique used in the diagnosis and treatment of abdominal diseases.
Zion Hospital boasts some of the best surgeons who handle their patients with the utmost care so as to make their lives as painless as possible.
How is it Performed?
Laparoscopic Surgery is different from traditional open surgery as it makes small incisions to complete the surgery compared to large incisions made during the latter. An incision is made near the belly button. Through this incision, a tube is inserted through which Carbon Dioxide is pumped, to make the insides easier to see and manoeuvre for the Surgeon. An instrument called laparoscope is then inserted. The laparoscope is fitted with a camera and a light source which allows the surgeon to view the insides of the subject clearly on a TV monitor. Technological advancements including higher definition cameras and better light sources have made laparoscopic surgery easier in the past years.
Compared to traditional surgery, patients who have undergone laparoscopic surgery report less pain. They also recover faster and the risks of getting scarred is massively reduced.
